Thomas Horgan
Thomas is a Senior Policy Adviser at the Food Standards Agency, focusing on the design and development of food policy in Great Britain in partnership with Food Standards Scotland; since the start of 2024 he has been focusing on GB’s approach for a variety of novel foods including alternative proteins. Thomas has served as a policy professional within the Agency since 2019, developing expertise in a wide array of policy areas including chemical contaminants, precision breeding, food waste and fortificants. Since 2022 Thomas has been intricately involved in the Agency’s work on cell-cultivated products, working in partnership with industry, academia and wider Government to gain insight into emerging technologies. Prior to joining the Food Standards Agency, Thomas completed his undergraduate degree in chemistry at the University of Southampton (UoS). Later he completed a masters in chemistry from UoS in partnership with the Australian National University specialising in supramolecular chemistry and graphene analogues.
