2024 Conference Session
Choosing a Name: Branding considerations for protein alternatives, including plant-based and cultivated meat products
Speakers
About the Session
Branding considerations are critical when labeling plant-based meat and dairy products. Legislation and litigation have emerged in the US and the EU around use of terms such as meat and milk for plant-based products. The Session will review examples of U.S. legislative efforts and litigation, such as the Tofurky, Miyoko and White Wave’s “Almond Milk” litigation; EU amendments to ban use of names such as “veggie burger” or to impose heavy new restrictions on plant-based dairy products; and, labeling for cultivated meat and seafood products, including Eat Just’s cultivated chicken nuggets which have been approved for sale in Singapore and US and Upside Foods recent US approval.
